About

“25 Problems” is part of a set of information products created and maintained by Roman Kowalczuk.

Beginning in 2023 and continuing to what is now the spring of 2026, the views expressed were mostly his (ergo "my" - Roman).

This experiment stems from experiences with aging buildings and their management in the Don Mills area. It is provided "as is" with no warranties expressed or (really) implied. I can tell you that keeping web pages updated in such rapidly changing areas as federal-provincial housing policy and artificial intelligence is a daunting chore!

Anyway as land prices have soared, managers have come and gone, rental buildings have flipped and developers have been out in force, trying to get a piece of the "lucrative market". And one or two of the Toronto city councillors have been doing some strange stuff, eg. why would you vote for a sky-scraping, old technology "family" condo tower when there are zero available school spaces, and buyers
will have to sign a contract to the effect that they agree that the best plan will have children bussed to destinations unknown???!

I thought it might be handy for condo boards, tenant associations and building managers to have an actual list of issues to consider. I'm still working on this list! I have provided some forums, indexing and search, and we should try to get some in-person, and/or meetings going. I am a senior and I know all about the difficulties of getting around in winter to meetings where you are limited to perhaps one question and there is no published contact list, summary or other follow-up materials!

Twenty years ago I attended a largely un-advertised consultation with the police who had come into some thousands of dollars and they wanted to buy shiny new surveillance systems. This event was poorly advertised, and I took issue with the cops’ approach. I said that the area needed a technology portal and, well, here we are and
(SURPRISE!!!) so is artificial intelligence!!! By summer 2025 Google's A.I. module was supplying a lot of content here. Google’s even reviewed the scene with the phpBB software ("phpBB.com" if you want to check it out) and similar products.

Also the "Hi-Rise" newspaper publisher
Valerie Dunn passed away, and some of her domains went down. So there was a bit of an information gap that developed in the area circa 2022-2023 say.
